Pianist Monica Scott’s debut album Reflections is a captivating collection of hymns and sacred songs. Her arrangements, always articulate, range from gentle to sweeping during eleven songs, which include LDS favorites like "How Great Thou Art" and "I Am a Child of God." Each arrangement balances the familiar with the new, weaving alternate harmonies and rhythmic figures into timeless tunes; introducing sophisticated flourishes, but never straying too far from the beloved original pieces. Through it all, Scott’s performances remain elegant and understated, defined by an overarching simplicity that speaks to her ability both as an arranger and pianist. The end result is an album that transports the listener to a quiet corner of the world where noise and trouble are distant, and truth and testimony come into greater focus.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Monica Scott grew up in a musical family where she learned to play the violin and the piano at an early age. She had the opportunity to study piano from Carmen Hall and later at Brigham Young University. She graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) with a BS in Music. Writing music has always been a quiet hobby of Monica's, but she only began sharing her work recently when she decided to record some Christmas music. It started out as a gift for her family members, but ultimately turned into a keepsake for her children as well. Because of the peace and comfort arranging the sacred hymns brought into her home, particularly during trying times, Monica entitled her first album “Reflections." Monica is a stay-at-home mom of 4 young children.
