A Hymn Revival, Volume 2 - The Lower Lights
With A Hymn Revival Volume 2, The Lower Lights sing, strum, pick, pluck, pound, and thump out the next chapter of their folk and bluegrass-inflected dive into the roots of the Christian songbook. Recorded live over four days in August 2011, Volume 2 picks up where their debut album left off: with fresh, spirited, rootsy takes on the classic hymnbook. But it also expands the collective's sound to classic country: Hank Willliams' "I Saw The Light" and "Calling You" and the Louvin Brothers' classic "The Christian Life"; as well as a Negro spiritual ("Go Down, Moses"), a gorgeous traditional Irish hymn ("Be Thou My Vision"), and more. This is the document of 20-plus musicians- all hailing from a wide cross-section of genres like folk, electronica, pop, americana, indie rock, and bluegrass- getting together for four days, mining the Christian songbook, and seeing what happens. See for yourself.
